Friday of the 4th Week of Easter

In interviews famous people are sometimes asked to name the most influential person in their lives.  The idea behind the question is that usually people don’t rise to prominence without the help of some significant person in their lives.   We may not think of ourselves as prominent, and yet we are very important in God’s eyes.

The most influential and significant person in our lives should be our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  After all, he is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  Without the way there is no going, without the truth there is no knowing, and without the life there is no living.  But in following Our Lord we can be sure that we are on the right way, a path that leads to true happiness.  In embracing the truth that is Jesus we are certain that we have the correct understanding of, and approach to what it means to be human.  And by accepting Jesus as the life we are made like him, children of God and loved by God.

Someone said that life without Christ is like living at Heathrow Airport.  Heathrow is a confusing, impersonal, madhouse of bustling humanity.  Among thousands of people you can feel completely lost and alone.

But with Christ we are not a lost soul cast adrift in the sea of humanity.  Rather through him we are in union with an untold number of brothers and sisters in the family of God, the Church.  We are all on the same journey with the sure, safe guidance of Christ.  Filled with the life of Christ we are already well on our way to our eternal destiny.  How blessed we are that Jesus Christ is for us the Way, the Truth and the Life.
